Sittu Club, Cantt Star outclass opponents, advance to next stage

JAMMU, Dec 30: Sittu Club, Simbal Camp outclassed Guru Nanak Nagar Club by 6-1 in the inaugural tie of the 1st Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sub Junior Hockey tournament organised by Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Foundation under the aegis of Hockey J&K at KK Hakku Stadium.
In the first half of the first match, Ramandeep of Sittu Club netted the first goal in the 7th minute and raised lead on the opponent team.
Enthusiastic Ramandeep again scored the goal in the 9th minute and brought the opponent team under pressure of 2-0 goals.
In the 13th minute, Bikram Singh of Guru Nanak Nagar Club brought some respite for his team mates by netting the goal.
After third goal of the match in the 13th minute, players of both the team tried their best to increase the scorecard, but failed and the first half ended with 2-1 goals.
In the second half, Ramandeep again proved his mettle and netted the goal in the 42nd minutes and elevated the scoreboard to 3-1 goals.
Just after three minute, Harminder Pal of Sittu Club scored the goal in 45th minute, which boosted the morale of his teammates.
Ramneek Singh of Sittu Club scored goal in 52nd and further raised the scorecard to 5-1 goals, which the opponent team players were finding difficult to equalize.
The dreams of winning the game by Guru Nanak Nagar Club shattered, when passionate Ramneek Singh after finding a gap again netted the goal in the second last minute of the game.
The dedicated game played by Ramandeep and Ramneek Singh paved way for Sittu Club to register its berth in the next round of the tourney.
In the second match, Cantt Star Satwari thrashed Army Public School Miran Sahib by a solitary goal.
In the first half, Parvinder Singh of Cantt Star Satwari scored the first goal of the match in the 10th minute via penalty corner and raised the scorecard to 1-0 goal.
After first goal of the match by Cantt Star team, the players of Army Public School Miran Sahib tried their level best to equalize the game, but failed and the first half ended with 1-0 goal.
In the second half, players of Cantt Star team restricted its opponent Army Public School Miran Sahib from scoring any goal and the match ended with 1-0 goal.
Earlier, the tournament was declared open by Dr Roop Lal Sharma, Chairman, Sain Charitable Trust, who while speaking said that it is the necessity of the time to encourage the youngsters to play national game ‘Hockey’.
He extended full support for the promotion of ‘Hockey’ among the youngsters in particular and people of J&K in general.
Ranjit Kalra, Member, J&K State Sports Council, who was the guest of honour in his speech, assured full cooperation on behalf of J&K Sports Council for the success of the tournament.
Among others present were Dr Taran Singh, Romal Singh, Jagjeet Kour, Harcharan Singh, Amardeep Singh, Avtar Singh, Ravinder Singh, Tirlok Singh and Davinder Bakshi.
The matches were officiated by Jagjit Singh, Dalvinder Singh, Joginder Singh, Mandeep Singh, Dalbir Mehtaand and GS Bakshi, Tournament Director.
In tomorrow fixture, Army Public School (APS) Akhnoor will lock horns with Shaheed Bhagat Singh Club in the first match and SOS School will clash with Young Star Simbal Camp in the second match.
