*Khajuria spins web around rivals

JAMMU, June 1: Star-studded Simula Cricket Club defeated young team of Mayank Goswami Cricket Academy (MGCA) in an easy contest by 7 wickets to move into the next round of the Salute and Tribute to Cricket Players T20 Cricket Tournament, being organised by Parade Sports Association at Parade Ground, here.
Earlier, batting first, Mayank Goswami Cricket Academy managed to score a modest total of 103 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 9 wickets in the process. Suryansh Raina was the top scorer with 25 runs, which included 4 boundaries, while Ajay and Shubam Pundeer contributed 18 and 15 runs to the total respectively. Ajay hit one boundary in his brief knock, while Pundeer struck one six in his knock. For Simula Cricket Club, off-spinner Sameer Khajuria spun a web around the rival batsmen with his turn, bounce, loop and what and what not, to scalp 4 important wickets in his 4 overs, while Vikram bagged 2 wickets and Shamsher claimed one.
In reply, Simula Club rode on quick knocks from Anshuman Sharma, Shashi Kumar and Dhruv Mahajan to surpass the target in just 9.4 overs. Anshuman scored well made 28 runs with the help of 5 boundaries, while Shashi contributed 27 runs with one boundary and 2 sixes and Dhruv chipped in with unbeaten 25 runs, studded with 4 boundaries and one maximum. For MGCA, Arjun bagged 2 wickets, while Ajay claimed one. Sameer Khajuria of Simula Club was adjudged man of the match for his splendid bowling show.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and Madan Mohan as umpires, while Ajay Sharma was the scorer.
Laxmi Cricket Club will take on V Square Cricket Club at the same venue tomorrow.
