JAMMU, Dec 31: Superb all-round show by Rohan Gill and splendid batting display by Shivansh Sharma helped JKP Junior XI trounce Christian Sports Organization (CSO) Junior XI by virtue of first innings lead in the X-Mas & New Year Under-14 Test Series, being organized jointly by Range Police Headquarters and CSO at Parade ground, here.
The tournament was inaugurated by DIG, Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range in a colourful function today.
Speaking on the occasion, DIG Jammu said that JKP apart from promoting sports in general, leaves no stone unturned in organizing sporting events in all age groups including veterans and tender age groups.
He was accompanied by Parshotam Sharma, Director Prosecution, Rajesh Gill, organizing secretary, Manmohit Sharma and Vivek Shaiker.
Earlier, batting first, CSO Jr XI scored 139 runs in 23 overs in their first innings. Joy was the top scorer with 50 runs, while Kallis contributed 15 runs to the total. For JKP Jr XI, Aryaman and Rohan Gill were the most successful bowlers, who bagged 4 wickets each.
In reply, JKP Jr XI scored a mammoth total of 221 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 52 overs in their first innings, thus gaining a vital lead of 112 runs and won the match by virtue of the first innings lead. Shivansh Sharma played a brilliant innings of unbeaten 57 runs, while Rohan Gill and Raghav Thakur contributed 31 and 23 runs to the total respectively. For CSO Jr XI, Julius, Joy, Addy, Ivon and Ritesh claimed one wicket each. Rohan Gill was declared man of the match for his superb all-round display.
The second match of the series will be held on January 2, 2015 at the same venue.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and Sandeep Manchanda as umpires, while Suhail Yusuf was the scorer.
