JAMMU, May 29: Shivani Charak of Shining Star High School, Muthi, Jammu became the new Champion in the Sub Junior Girls category of the 14th J&K State Sport Climbing Championship which started at Sprawling Buds School, here today.
In a close contest with Nitya Kesar of Shangrilla Public School, Jammu Shivani claimed the title by reaching the top of the 40 ft high fibre glass wall whereas Nitya could manage to reach just a point below the top. Palak Bhagat of Amba Kids Panthal ( Reasi) finished at the third place.
In the Sub Junior boys category Mrityunjay of Shangrilla Public School, a North Zone Speed Champion, faced a tough competition from Vikrant Singh of Sprawling Buds School, Jammu. Both topped the wall in the final round and the result had to be determined on the basis of semi final result in which Mrityunjay emerged victorious. Uzail Afzal of Amba Kids clinched the bronze medal.
In the Mini Girls category there was a keen contest between last year’s champion Asma Gul of Sprawling Buds School and Madhu Thakur of National Academy Udhampur. Both reached the same height in the final round and a super final was held in which Madhu Thakur emerged the winner. Tanisha Thakur of Amba Kids Panthal also climbed well to clinch the third spot.
Result in the Mini Boys category were on expected lines with Arun Deep of Shining Star High School claiming the title and Ajay Deep and Sanyam Bhatt of Sprawling Buds bagging the second and third positions.
Preliminary rounds in Lead climbing in the senior categories were still in progress and the final rounds, both in Lead and climbing, shall be held tomorrow.
Earlier, the championship was declared open by Professor Lalit Magotra, President, Dogri Sanstha, Jammu who is also President of J&K State Sport Climbing Association.
