Shilpa Charak blossoms in NZ Sport Climbing C’ship

JAMMU, Sept 18: Shilpa Charak of J&K created the biggest upset to claim Women’s Title of the 2nd Round of Monthly Series of North Zone Sport Climbing Competitions being conducted by Mountaineering Association of J&K at Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, here.
Making some fine climbing moves Shilpa topped the 40ft high wall to leave Shivpreet Pannu of Punjab, an international climber, at the second place. Asha Gautam of Delhi who slipped at a crucial hold secured the third place.
In the semifinal, Shilpa and Shivpreet had attained the same height to lead other climbers in the final round.
In the final Vishali and Shaweta of Govt. College for Women, Parade, Jammu also did well to finish at 4th and 5th places.
Meanwhile, in the Sub Junior Boys category J&K climbers Ritesh Sharma, Randeep Singh and Rahul Sharma made a clean sweep by winning the first three positions.
In the Sub Junior girls category, 8 climbers led by Asma Gul of J&K had entered the final round. The others included Kovel Haldar and Nandini Dass of Delhi and Samiksha Manhas, Sonakshi, Simran, Saina Sharma and  Radhika Sharma (all of J&K).
Earlier, the competition was inaugurated by former MLA Ashwani Sharma in the presence of Chairman, Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, New Delhi S. Bhattacharjee, Chairman, Rahul Sharma, Principal Arti Sharma of Sprawling Buds ICSE School; General Secretary, Ram Khajuria; Vice President Yogeshwar Kumar and Shawetica Khajuria, General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K.
