POONCH, Apr 3: The 1st edition of the Shaheed DySP Manjeet Singh Memorial Cricket Tournament has entered the second round at the Sports Stadium in Poonch. Inaugurated by SSP Poonch, Shafqat Hussain, on March 27, the tournament features 32 teams from District Poonch, providing a platform for local youth to display their cricketing talents.
In the first match of the second round, Star Viper won by five wickets. Dare Devil Club, batting first, managed 113 runs in 18.2 overs. Shoib was the top scorer with 27 runs, while Rashid Ali contributed 22 runs. Star Viper’s bowlers, Sakander (4 wickets) and Asif (2 wickets), were the standout performers. Star Viper reached the target in 16.1 overs, with Mehboob scoring 32 runs and Javed contributing 21 runs.
The second match saw YCC defeat Star Club Senior by two wickets. Star Club Senior, winning the toss, set a target of 100 runs in 17.2 overs, with Shabir scoring 18 and Zulafqar contributing 15 runs. YCC’s bowlers, Naqvi and Waheed, claimed three wickets each. YCC successfully chased the target in 17.4 overs, with Kashif scoring 28 and Aman contributing 18 runs.
The event was attended by SSP Poonch, Shafqat Hussain, along with Pawan Kumar, Perviaz Ahmed Malik, Mohd Yousaf and Ram Prakash. The tournament is organized by District Police Poonch under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) in tribute to Shaheed DySP Manjeet Singh.
