JAMMU, Feb 11: Shaheed Bhagat Singh Welfare Association, Mishriwala organised a six kilometres half marathon under the theme “Run Against Drugs” here today.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation and was flagged off by Sham Lal Sharma, State Vice President, BJP and Brijesh Kumar Sharma, SP Rural Jammu. The marathon concluded with a prize distribution ceremony to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of winners and runners-up.
The girls who emerged as the champions were Rimpy Devi (Winner), while Shandhad Bano and Anjali Rajput were declared as the runners-up. The winner in the boys’ category (13-30 age group) is Ritik Sharma, while Balwinder Sharma and Vishal Sharma come in second and third place respectively. Ajay Kumar emerged as the champion in the boys’ category (aged 30-45 years), with Tarsem and Manish Sharma securing second and third places respectively. In the senior category (ages 45 to 60), Makhan Lal emerged as the winner, followed by Surjeet Singh and Garu Ram as the runners-up. The winner in the senior citizen category, aged 60 and above, is Captain Ashok Kumar at 65 years old. The runners-up are Mohan Lal at 69 years old and Captain Prem Singh at 56 years old.
Sham Lal Sharma emphasized the severity of the drug problem and offered solutions to keep society, especially the youth, safe from its clutches. He commended the association for their initiative in organizing such a significant event. Sham Lal Sharma not only shed light on the gravity of the drug menace but also underscored the pivotal roles that society, parents, and education play in curbing this peril. Recognizing the interconnectedness of these elements, he emphasized the need for a collaborative effort to build a shield against the perils of substance abuse. Moreover, he urged community leaders, educational institutions, and parents alike to actively participate in such awareness campaigns.
SP Rural Jammu, Brijesh Kumar Sharma also shared his insights on the drug issue and highlighted the importance of community involvement in combating this societal challenge. His words resonated with the participants, encouraging them to take an active role in creating a drug-free environment.
