Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Badminton C’ship concludes

RAMBAN, May 14: Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial J&K Open Badminton Championship, organised by Indian Army in collaboration with J & K Badminton Association, concluded at Nachalana, here today.
A total of 60 young players from Ramban, Gool, Sangaldhan, Nachalana and Banihal participated in the open tournament.
The initial matches’ upto three rounds were played on knockout basis, followed by 16 top players contested for coveted championship title on ‘Round Robin League’ basis.
A total of 52 matches were played wherein all the participants displayed the highest standards of sportsmanship, discipline and enthusiasm.  The winners namely Karnail Singh from Ramban were awarded with medals and cash prizes of Rs 10000, while Vishal Sharma of Ramban stood runner-up and 16 players were awarded with meritorious certificates by the J&K Badminton Association.
The championship was organised by the Army as a part of ‘Fit India Movement’ of the Central Government and extension of ‘My Youth My Pride Scheme of JK Administration’.
The identified players would be trained for participation in State and National Badminton events by the Association.
