SDM inaugurates Rural Sports

JAMMU, Nov 11: “We have enhanced the facilities for the pilgrims visiting Bawa Jitto shrine during Jhiri Mela this year”, said SDM Marh Tariq Naik while inaugurating the Rural Sports, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
“We have focused on plastic free Mela this year. No body will we allowed to use single use plastic. To keep check on use of plastic we have constituted flying squad which will keep check on the plastic users”, he added.
“This year we have made lot of changes to facilitate the pilgrims. 75 steel chairs are fixed for the pilgrims. Many dustbins are fixed permanently. Main Chowk at Jhiri has been kept free from the vendors and chairs have been installed for the pilgrims” SDM informed.
“Police and paramilitary forces are deployed in good number to provide security to the Mela visitors. Arrangements for 24 hour water and power supply have been made. Two big screens have been installed on which story of Bawa Jitto and history of Jhiri Mela will be displayed”, SDM Tariq Naik added.
In Kabbadi, five teams of boys participated in which Government HSS Jhiri defeated MRLD School Burj Mandir and bagged first position, whereas in girls section, MRLD School Burj Mandir was declared winner and Government HSS Jhiri as runners up.
In Club Section, M A Stadium Club defeated Jammu United and in Tug-of-War, GHSS Jhiri defeated MRLD School Burj Mandir.
Later, SDM along with Tehsildar Marh Surinder Singh, Sarpanch Kalyanpur Mulkh Raj Sharma and ZEPO Marh distributed prizes among the winner teams.
