SRINAGAR, May 2: Civil Defence Srinagar organised a Disaster Preparedness Awareness Programme and Inter-School Symposium at Scholar’s School, Natipora, here today.
Students from various schools spoke on disaster related topics, during the symposium.
The participating students were judged by a panel of experts including Abdul Rashid, Deputy Commandant 1st Bn, SDRF, Er Aamir Ali and Mauzam Bakshi, Deputy Chief Wardens, CD Srinagar.
The programme was facilitated by Dr Mushtaq Ahmed Rather, Chairman, Scholar’s Group of Schools, ASI (M) Shabir Ahmed Khan, ASI Mohammed Afzal, SI Abdul Gani Mir, Ghulam Rasool, Nusrat Wani, Basharat and Rahi.
A class 3rd student Ahaan from Scholars’ bagged the 1st prize, while Gulnaz Tabassum, Class 8th Scholars won second prize and Murtaza Muzaffar, Class 10th Scholars won 3rd prize. Consolation prizes were given to Adil Hassan Khan, Class 10th Iqra Public School, Sehreen, Class 10th Crescent School and Muskaan Mushtaq Mir Class 7th of Rehmania Education Institute. The other students who participated include Mehreen Imtiaz, Shiekh Amir, Alia Khatoon, Anees Rafiq, Abdul Majid, Faizan Mushtaq, Mohammed Faizaan, Falak and Raja Sameer.
Speaking on the occasion, Aamir Ali and Mauzam Bakshi urged the students to learn life-saving skills so that they can be useful resources in the event of any disaster. The students were informed about the vulnerability to natural and human-induced disasters. They were taught safety measures by which vulnerability and damages can be reduced, so that in the event of any catastrophe the children can protect themselves.
