Kochi, Jan 10:
Himanshu Chawla played a belligerent half-century but other Punjab batsmen let the side down as Saurashtra won the inconsequential Group B match in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, here today.
Both the teams have been eliminated from the tournament and it was a matter of going out on a high note.
Electing to bat, Saurashtra scored 167 for five with a collective batting effort.
The openers did not do well but skipper Jaydev Shah led from the front with a fighting 35 and was supported well by Prerak Mankad (23), Sheldon Jackson (38) and Chirag Jani (39 not out).
Medium pacer Jaskaran Singh (2/17) took two wickets while Baltej Singh and Siddarth Kaul scalped one batsman each.
Punjab top-order failed terribly with Jiwanjot Singh (6), Pargat Singh (14) and Yuvraj Singh (0) could not even open his account.
Chawla brought Punjab back in the side with his gritty batting and he found an able ally in Gurinder Singh (33). Once the two batsmen were dismissed, Punjab innings fell apart.
Three of their batsmen could not open their account. (PTI)
