‘Int’l standard Stadium in Jammu to be completed soon’
*Bali Club drubs Lions CC in opening tie

JAMMU, Mar 22: Commissioner Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez inaugurated Winter Shield T20 Cricket Cup in an impressive and well attended function at Parade Ground, here today.
Mr Sarmad was the chief guest on the occasion while Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Dr Naseem Javaid Choudhary and SSP Ramesh Kotwal were the guests of honour. Chief Sports Officer J&K State Sports Council, Abdul Qayoom, Divisional Sports Officer Ravi Singh and Director State Cricket Academy, Mubhashir Hassan were present on the occasion, besides managers and coaches of J&K State Sports Council and a large number of cricket enthusiasts. Rajesh Gill and Rajesh Dhar are the Coordinators of event, who were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarmad Hafeez while lavishing praise on the organisers said that such type of tournaments provide opportunity to the youth to showcase their skills in sporting activities, besides helps them not to derail from the mainstream.
He said that Jammu will get an International standard Cricket Stadium soon in the form of MA Stadium, which will cater to the needs of thousands of cricket enthusiasts, including players and coaches.
The Commissioner Secretary further said after completion of the Stadium, the State will be able to organise IPL matches also.
Earlier, in his address, Secretary State Sports Council, Dr Naseem Javaid Choudhary said that sports and games serve for delight, for ornament and for agility.
He further said that Sports Council will be organising more mega events in the State.
The chief guest and the guest of honour interacted with the players on the occasion and played few balls to formally declare the tournament open.
In the inaugural match, Bali Cricket Club thrashed Lions Cricket Club in an easy contest by a big margin of 80 runs.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Bali Cricket Club scored a good total of 156 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process. Bali top scored with 69 runs off 47 balls, studded with 10 fours and 2 sixes, while Nitin contributed 31 off 29 balls including 2 fours and one six. From Lions Cricket Club, King Ji took 3 wickets, while Dalip and Zubair claimed 2 wickets each.
In reply, Lions Cricket Club bundled out for paltry 76 runs to lose the match by 80 runs. Asif top scored with 26 runs while Ashish Bhagat contributed 12 runs. None of the other batsmen could cross double figure mark. Sanju took 3 important wickets from Bali Cricket Club.
In tomorrow’s fixture, JCC will take on Raja Warriors at 11 am in the first match, while Laxmi Cricket Club will face Samar Cricket Club at 2 pm in the second match.
The match was officiated by Vijay and Dayal Singh, while the proceedings of the inaugural function were conducted by commentator Rajesh Dhar.
