Sarmad Hafeez declares open 28th Senior National Wushu C’ship

JAMMU, Dec 27: Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary Youth Services and Sports J&K declared the 28th Senior National Wushu Championship-2019 (Men/Women) open in an impressive, colourful and well attended function at New Indoor Hall, MA Stadium, here today.
Around 1300 players drawn from 42 teams across the country are participating in this Championship and vying for the top honours.
He was accompanied by Dr Naseem Javaid Choudhary, Secretary Sports Council and Bhupinder Singh Bajwa, President Wushu Association of India as the guests of honour, while Dr Ashutosh Sharma and Dr SM Bali were the special guests.
Earlier, Vijay Saraf, President Wushu Association of J&K presented welcome address.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sarmad said that the events like this apart from promoting sports and games in the Union Territory, help in channelizing the energy of youth in a positive direction, besides serving as a launching pad for bringing peace and harmony to the State through the messengers of peace (sportspersons).
He said such events help youth to exchange culture with their counterparts from other States.
He congratulated the current World champion Praveen for bringing the first ever medal in men’s category to the country in the World Championship and also lauded the efforts of Kuldeep Handoo, Chief Coach of India.
Bhupender Singh Bajwa extended thanks to J&K Sports Council for supporting Wushu sports.
Mr Bajwa said that Wushu is a high priority sports in the country and has brought laurels to India at all levels.
The proceedings of the inaugural function were conducted by Rajesh Dhar, Lecturer Physical Education and commentator.
Prominent among others president on the occasion were Divisional Sports Officer J&K Sports Council, Ravi Singh; Sohail Ahmed, General Secretary Wushu Association of India; Manish Kacker, Vice President; Yasir Ahmed, Chief Accounts Officer and DySP Zahid Lone, Sports Officer APHQ.
Taichiquan, Nanquan and Changauan bare events got underway today, whereas in Sanda event, preliminary bouts were in progress.
