JAMMU, Mar 24: Defeating their rivals convincingly in the summit clashes, Samba boys and the girls from Kashmir lifted the title trophies of the 9th State Tennis Ball Cricket Championship, organized by Jammu and Kashmir Tennis Ball Cricket Association at Green Field, Gandhi Nagar, here.
Member Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Nazir Ahmed Laway was the chief guest on the occasion, who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams on the occasion, while Syed Ifaq, Managing Director, Royal Yamaha was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Laway lavished praise on the organizers for holding this event and said that better performances of the players at the lower levels help them perform well at the higher levels.
He said that similar event will be held in Kashmir very soon.
Earlier, in the boys final, District Samba defeated District Jammu in an exciting contest by one wicket. Batting first, Jammu scored 32 runs in 6 overs. Narottam top scored with 10 runs. In reply, Samba chased the target in 5.5 overs by losing 7 wickets, thus won the match by 1 wicket. Vikram scored 12 runs. For Jammu, Narottam took 3 wickets, while Sunil and Happy claimed one wicket each.
In the girls section, Kashmir Division defeated Jammu Division by 24 runs.
Batting first, Kashmir scored 76 runs in 6 overs. Bisma Hassan top scored with 45 runs. For Jammu Division, Sanjana and Sonika Raina claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Jammu managed to score 52 runs and lost the match by 24 runs. Sonika scored 17 runs, while Sanjana contributed 8 runs to the total. For Kashmir Division, Meenaz Khaliq took 2 wickets, while Bisma and Niharika took 1 wicket each. Bisma Hassan was declared as woman of the match for her brilliant knock.
