POONCH, July 16: Sports Authority of India (SAI) Reds drubbed Stadium XI by five goals to one (5-1) to stay alive in the ongoing Hockey Tournament, being organised by SAI Coaching Centre, Poonch, under the auspices of Hockey J&K at Sports Stadium, here.
The tournament is being held under the overall supervision of Sham Lal Sharma, hockey coach Sports Authority of India.
Earlier, SAI Reds team dominated the match from the word go as Sawal Ahmed netted the first goal in the 4th minute of the match, which was followed by another goal by Naveed Ahmed in the 12th minute. SAI Reds maintained the 2-0 lead upto the 25th minute, when Gurjot Singh of Stadium XI succeeded in scoring a goal to decrease the rival teams lead by one goal. The first half ended with (2-1) in favour of SAI Reds. However, SAI Reds players continued their brilliance to score back to back goals in 44th, 50th and 51st minutes through Vikas Sharma, Charanjeet Singh and Naveed Ahmed respectively. Naveed Ahmed was the star performer who scored 2 magnificent goals for his side. Finally SAI Reds won the match by a huge margin of 4 goals (5-1).
Meanwhile, in another match played today, SAI Blues blanked Stadium Junior by four goals to nil (4-0). SAI Blues players began in style, scoring 2 goals within first seven minutes of the match, with Shoket and Rohit scoring the goals in 2nd and 7th minute respectively. Then, Manik pelted back to back goals in 23rd and 30th minute of the match to increase the lead by four goals and SAI Blues won the match with the same margin.
The matches were officiated by Sanjeev Sharma, Rohit Sharma, Sawal Ahmed, Vikas Sharma and Mukesh Sharma.
The tournament in which four boys and three girls teams, all drawn from SAI Coaching Centre Poonch, are participating, is being played on league basis. Narjeet Singh is the convener of the tournament, while Ravinder Singh is convener, technical committee.
