Challenger drubs SCC, lifts Pawan T20 trophy

AKHNOOR, July 16: Team effort helped Challenger Cricket Club, Jammu to thrash Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor by a huge margin of 120 runs in the title clash and lifted the trophy of the 4th Pawan Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament at Government Higher Secondary School, here today.
Dilbag Singh, IGP Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion, while Col Muktesh Kapil, CO 91 Medium Regiment was the guest of honour.
Winning the toss and batting first, Challenger Club, rode on a splendid batting performance by Ashu to post a mammoth total of 213 runs. Ashu made 85 runs off just 43 balls, which included 10 fours and 4 sixes, while Parveen Singh and Vimarsh Kaw contributed valuable 47 and 45 runs respectively, with 4 fours and 3 sixes each. Rakesh Koul also contributed 26 runs off 21 balls with the help of 4 boundaries.
For Singh Club, Dilawar Singh, Shubam Khajuria and Nitin Mehra claimed 1 wicket apiece.
In reply, Singh Club, bundled out for a paltry total of 93 runs in 15 overs, thus lost the match by a big margin of 120 runs. Shubam Khajuria contributed 20-ball 29 runs including 3 boundaries and 2 sixes, while Dilawar Singh, Sumit Rajput and Jasvinder Singh scored 13, 11 and 10 runs respectively. For Challenger Club, Ram Dayal was the wrecker-in-chief, who captured 4 important wickets, while Ashwani, Manik Gupta and Deepak Singh Manhas shared one wicket each. Ashu was declared as man of the match, Ram Dayal as man of the series and Rohit Sharma as best batsman of the tournament.
The winners were presented a cash prize of Rs 20,000 along with a trophy, while as runners-up team received a cash prize of Rs 10,000 along with a trophy from the chief guest and the guest of honour on the occasion.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik, Joginder Mangotra and Srikant, while the tournament was organised by Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor under the overall supervision of Sham Singh Langeh, organizing Secretary.
