Rural Sports Meet gets underway

RAMBAN, Sept 16: A Rural Sports Meet, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, District Office Ramban got underway at Government Higher Secondary School Gandri, here.
Principal HSS Gandri, Subash Chander Sharma inaugurated the Meet in a well attended function, while Zonal Education Officer OP Thakur was also present on the occasion.
Over 400 players drawn from rural areas of the district participated in the meet, who while representing various teams fought for the top honours in the disciplines of volleyball, kabaddi, tug-of-war, cock fighting, stone lifting and wrestling.
Earlier, colourful cultural items were presented by the students on the inaugural ceremony.
This 2-days Sports Meet which would conclude here tomorrow, is being held under the overall supervision of Dewan Chand Thakur, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Ramban, while Mohd Hussain, Senior Assistant is the joint organizer.
