AKHNOOR, June 30: A swashbuckling unbeaten century by Rohit Sharma helped Friends Cricket Club (FCC) Akhnoor to drub Friends Cricket Club (FCC) Jammu by 6 wickets and enter the quarterfinals of the ongoing 4th Pawan Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament, being organized by Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor at Government Higher Secondary School ground, here.
Earlier, winning the toss and electing to bat first, FCC Jammu scored a modest total of 130 runs in the stipulated 20 overs by losing 9 wickets. Ashwani Sharma top scored with 39-ball 35 runs, while Rimpu contributed brisk 28 runs off just 20 balls. Amit Singh bagged 2 wickets for FCC Akhnoor, while Parveen Sharma, Arun Singh, Balbir Singh and Jarpal Singh claimed one wicket apiece.
FCC Akhnoor, in reply, sailed on a fabulous knock of unbeaten 107 runs by Rohit Sharma and surpassed the required total in 14.5 overs by losing 4 wickets , thus won the match by 6 wickets. Rohit took just 53 balls to score a fabulous hundred with the help of 14 magnificent boundaries and 5 sixes. No other batsman could reach the double figure mark. For FCC Jammu, Jitender and Ajay claimed one wicket each, while the other 2 batsmen got run out.
Meanwhile, in another match, Challenger Cricket Club trounced Media XI by 4 wickets to qualify for the quarterfinals. Batting first, Media XI scored 112 for the loss of 8 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Deepak Singh Chib was the top scorer with 28 runs, while Hardeep Singh and Chetan Chib contributed 26 and 17 runs to the total respectively. Ram Dayal was pick of the bowlers for Challenger Club, who captured 3 wickets, while Manjeet Singh bagged 2. Rahil Singh, Ashwani and Vijay claimed one wicket each.
Challenger Club reached the target in 15.5 overs by losing 6 wickets, thus won the match by 4 wickets. Vimarsh Kaw played a brilliant innings of 17-ball 35 runs, while Ram Dayal scored valuable 27 runs off 28 balls and Ashu also contributed 12-ball 13 runs to the total. For Media XI, Hardeep Singh and Deepak Singh scalped 2 wickets each, while Naushad claimed one.
The matches were officiated by Vikas Bali, Jimmy Mangotra, Sunny Kumar and Surinder Singh as umpires, while Sunny Sharma and Tarun Kumar acted as the scorers. The tournament is being held under the overall supervision of Sham Singh Langeh, Chairman Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor.
