Leh, July 20: On the last day of Ladakh School Olympics (LSO, 2019 the first of its kind, River Rafting competition of school children was conducted covering a stretch of 8 kms from Tsoksti till Sangam view point in Zanskar River today. Chewang Phonsog, Vice Chancellor, Ladakh Cluster University was the chief guest on the occasion and flagged off the boys and girls rafting teams from Tsoksti in the morning.
Addressing the gathering during an award ceremony function held at Adventure Park near Nimoo Sangam, C. Phonsog congratulated the top three ranking boys and girls teams. He appreciated the initiative and efforts of district administration in organizing the Ladakh School Olympics and having thought of including river rafting as one of the sporting event which is quite familiar in Himalayan mountain regions.
Phonsog suggested Administration to involve both Leh and Kargil districts in LSO from next year that will ensure more participation and better competition.
Advisor to all Ladakh Rafting Organisation also spoke on the occasion and informed that the best 10 students selected from the rafting teams both girls and boys will be sent to Reshikesh for river rafting training in this year.
Besides, the selected students will also compete in the world highest rafting competition to be held in Leh this year. He expressed gratitude to DC, Leh Avny Lavasa for including rafting in LSO and requested Administration for more support in promoting river rafting in Leh.
Member, Kunthus Tsogspa, Nimoo shared his views on the occasion.
Later, C. Phonsog presented medals to the top three teams of boys/girls in river rafting.
In girls team Govt. Higher Secondary School, Saspol bagged the first position, Govt High School, Chuchot Shamma, Leh second and Govt. Higher Secondary School, Sakti third. In boys team, Govt. Higher Secondary School, Summor won the gold medal, Govt. Higher Secondary School, Nyoma bagged the silver medal and Govt Boys Higher Secondary School, Leh got the bronze medal.
