J&K all set to qualify for QFs in prestigious Ranji Trophy

JAMMU, Feb 6: Brilliant Parvez Rasool, gritty and gutsy Shubham Khajuria, elegant Abdul Samad and radiant all-round duo of Abid Mushtaq and Auqib Nabi took Jammu and Kashmir to radiance as it is all set to make it to the quarterfinals in the prestigious Ranji Trophy, defeating Tripura by a huge margin of 329 runs in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group-C match at MBB Stadium, Agartala in Tripura today.
Now, after eight outings with just one match remaining in the league phase, Jammu and Kashmir is toping the table with 39 points, while Odisha who were at 35 points after 7 outings will either remain on 35 or at the most will secure one more point to go to 36 as they were facing a daunting task of saving the match after conceding 1st innings lead to Maharashtra. The Services is at number-3 spot with 33 points from 8 matches. As per the situation, J&K is all set to make it to the last eight stage.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 49/1, J&K rode on the batting efforts of Shubham Khajuria, skipper Parvez Rasool and youngster Abdul Samad, who all scored magnificent half centuries to declare their innings at 306/9, thus setting a big target of 448 runs for Tripura. Shubham Khajuria top scored with 76 runs off 112 balls, studded with 9 fours and 3 sixes, while Parvez Rasool and Abdul Samad scored 56 runs each of 72 and 56 balls respectively. Parvez hit 8 fours and six in his knock, while Samad smashed 2 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. Opener Suryansh Raina, Auqib Nabi and Abid Mushtaq scored 31, 30 and 29 runs to the total respectively.
MB Murasingh was the pick of the bowlers for Tripura, who took 6 wickets by conceding 64 runs in his 15 overs, while Rana Dutta bagged 2 and Ajoy Sarkar claimed one wicket.
Chasing a huge target of 448 runs, Tripura were bundled out for paltry 119 runs, thus lost the match by 329 runs. All-rounder Manisankar Murasingh was the top scorer with 58 runs, while Pallab Das, Saurav Das and Pratyush Singh contributed 13 runs each. Parvez Rasool, who spun web around the Tripura batsmen to scalp 7 wickets in the first innings, again wrecked havoc, taking 5 wickets by conceding 28 runs in 14 overs, while Abid Nabi and Auqib Mushtaq took 2 wickets each and Abdul Samad claimed 1 wicket.
The Jammu and Kashmir team is being accompanied by Milap Mewada as coach, Javed Ahmed as Assistant Coach, Aftab as Manager, Bilal as Joint Manager, Dr Ajaz Chilloo as Physio, Amit Bargotra as Strength and Conditioning Coach, Pritesh Joshi as Side Arm/Throw down Expert, Sahil Magotra as Video Analyst and Syed Mujtaba as Logistic Manager.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) JKCA in a message has congratulated the team for this achievement.
