JAMMU, Feb 20: Former skipper and off-spinner Parvez Rasool’s 10 wicket haul by giving 85 runs, while Abdul Samad’s ton and Qamran Iqbal’s 96 runs, besides role of all-rounder Abid Mushtaq and batters Jatin Wadhawan and Shubham Singh Pundir helped J&K to register 8-wicket win over Pondicherry in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group-C match at SSN College Ground, Chennai, today.
The teamwork and brilliant exhibition of decision making made all the difference.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 113/9, Pondicherry bundled out for 124 runs, thus setting a target of 42 runs for J&K. Sagar V Trivedi top scored with 37 runs, while Pavan Deshpande scored 21 runs. Paras Dogra contributed 16 runs.
For J&K, Parvez Rasool was the wrecker-in-chief, who captured 6 important wickets by conceding 29 runs in his 19.5 overs, while left-arm spinner Abid Mushtaq took 2 wickets by giving away 28 runs in his 12 overs. Umran Malik and Auqib Nabi claimed one wicket each.
Chasing a meagre target of 42 runs, J&K completed the formality in 12.4 overs, losing 2 wickets, thus won the match by 8 wickets, however, lost the initiative of earning a bonus point, which could have been achieved by scripting 10-wicket victory. Openers Qamran and Jatin lost their wickets cheaply. Shubham Singh Pundir remained unbeaten on 21 runs, while skipper Ian Dev Singh finished the match in style, hitting a massive sixe off the only ball he faced. For Pondicherry, Sagar P Udeshi took both the wickets.
J&K earned 6 points with this win and stands on top of the points table.
