JAMMU, Nov 8: Promising speedster Ramdayal Punia turned out to be the most successful bowler for J&K with figures of 5/85 in his 22.1 overs as Jammu and Kashmir were 282 for 8 in their first innings in reply to Goa’s 317 all out at stumps on the second day of a Group C match of the Ranji Trophy at Sher-e-Kashmir Sports Stadium in Srinagar, today.
Earlier, resuming the day at 281 for 8, Goa added 36 more runs to the total before being bowled out for a decent total of 317 runs. The remaining 2 wickets of Goa were scalped by Ramdayal to help him take a 5-wicket haul. He consistently bowled in good areas and forced the batsmen to commit mistakes and plot their dismissals. The overnight batsmen SS Bandekar remained unbeaten on 64 runs, while HH Gadekar contributed valuable 20 runs to the total. KA Vaz, who missed the ton by a whisker on day-1 remained the top scorer with 99 runs.
In response, J&K rode on fabulous half-centuries by Adil Reshi (80) and Majid Dar (58) and scored 282/8 before the stumps were drawn today. Adil hit 12 delectable boundaries in his 126-ball knock, while Majid smashed 4 fours and 2 sixes in his 123-ball innings.
Apart from Adil and Majid, wicket-keeper Obaid Haroon and all-rounder Manik Gupta made identical scores of 33 runs.
At stumps, Samiullah Beigh (25 not out) and Ramdayal (7 not out) were the unbeaten batsmen with J&K still trailing Goa by 35 runs, yet in sight of a much needed first innings lead.

Yadav’s 3-wicket haul puts Haryana on top
Nagpur: Off-spinner Jayant Yadav’s three-wicket burst put Haryana in a comfortable position as they reduced Vidarbha to 94 for three having scored a decent 329 in their first innings in a Ranji Trophy Group A match here today.
At stumps, Vidarbha’s professional Hemang Badani (35 batting) was at the crease in company of Ranjit Paradkar (8 batting). Vidarbha still need 236 runs to get an all-important first innings lead.
Hosts Kerala make mammoth total against Andhra
Kannur: Andhra ended the second day at 42 for no loss in reply to Kerala’s first innings score of 486 in the Ranji trophy Group-C matches at Thalassery.
After the century of Sanju V Samson, Kerala skipper Sachin Baby 62 and his 151 run fifth wicket stand with Robert Fernadez, who scored 88, and P Prasanth 68, helped hosts reach a mammoth total of 486/10 in 163 overs.
At close of the day, Andhra’s K S Bharat was batting with 22 and D B Prasanth at 10.
Kerala resuming at 236/4, Robert Fernadez added 49 runs and Captain Sachin baby added 60 runs, and both wickets are taken by S K M D Basa in successive overs.
Badrinath’s double ton takes TN to 532/8
Indore: Subramaniam Badrinath (248) slammed a double hundred as Tamil Nadu piled on the woes of Madhya Pradesh as the visitors reached a massive 532 for eight on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Group B match here today.
Badrinath added 122 more runs today to his overnight 126 and was the last man out today at the Holkar Cricket Stadium here.
His 248 came from 448 balls and was studded with 28 boundaries. Badrinath was the second TN batsman who hit a triple digit score. Yesterday, Baba Aparajith had hit 118.
Sibsankar, Gokul hit tons, Assam in command
Guwahati: Assam rode on a century each from Sibsankar Roy and Gokul Sharma to find themselves at a commanding position at the end of second day’s play in the Ranji Trophy Group C match against Hyderabad, here today.
Sibsankar scored 134 off 373 deliveries (17x4s), while Gokul remained unbeaten on 126 that came off 285 balls (17x4s) to power Assam to 422 for six at the close of play at Barsapara Cricket Stadium.
Starting at the overnight score 181 of five, Sibsankar and Gokul frustrated the Hyderabad bowlers for most part of the day with their resolute partnership and added 104 more runs to their last night’s stand of three to take Assam forward.
Railways struggle after good start
New Delhi: Railways bundled out Saurashtra for a paltry 165 but let go the advantage by losing four wickets in reply in a Group B Ranji Trophy match at Jamia Millia Cricket Ground, here today.
Pacers Anureet Singh (5/52) and Hardik Rathod (3/34) shared eight wickets between them to close the first innings of visitors, who started the day at 88 for four.
Anureet added two scalps to his three yesterday for a five-wicket haul while left-arm paceman Rathod polished off the tail.
Railways though could not make the most of the situation as they were struggling at 61 for four at the end of second day’s play.
Nitin Bhille (16) and Mahesh Rawat (20) were at the crease for the visitors.
HP take 45-run first innings lead over Tripura
Agartala: Captain Rishi Dhawan led from the front with a well-made 67 to help Himachal Pradesh take a vital 45-run first innings lead over Tripura at the end of second days’ play in a Ranji Trophy Group C match, here today.
Resuming at the overnight score of 26 for one after bowling out Tripura for 141 yesterday, Himachal batsmen too found the going tough as they lost wickets at regular intervals.
If not for some determined batting from Dhawan and opener Prashant Chopra (43), it would have been difficult for Himachal to surpass Tripura’s first innings total.
Dhawan struck nine fours and one six during his 95-ball knock while Chopra decorated his innings with seven boundaries.
