SAMBA, May 24: Scripting resounding wins over their rivals in the summit clashes, District Rajouri and District Udhampur claimed the Under-14 and Under-17 volleyball titles respectively in the Division Level Inter-District Volleyball Championship, which concluded at Government Girls High School Ghagwal, here today.
Earlier, in volleyball Under-14 finals, Rajouri defeated Ramban by (3-1) sets to win the title, while in the Under-17 title clash, Udhampur got better of Rajouri by three sets to two (3-2) in a close contest to lift the trophy.
In the inaugural ceremony the other day, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Ved Parkash was the chief guest who declared the tournament open in a well attended function, while organizing secretary Jarpal Singh, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Samba and Dr SS Chib, DYSSO Reasi were present on the occasion.
On the concluding day today, Chandra Prevha Headmaster, Government Girls High School Ghagwal presided over the valedictory function and awarded winners and runners-up teams on the occasion, besides distributing medals among the players.
All the districts of Jammu division participated in the tournament, wherein over 200 players displayed their skill.
Speaking on the occasion, Jarpal Singh impressed upon the players to take part in games and sports for the betterment of healthy living and the spirit of sportsmanship.
Earlier in Under-17 boys semifinals, Rajouri defeated Samba by (3-2) sets, while Udhampur got better of Ramban by (3-1) sets.
In Under-14 boys semifinals, Ramban drubbed Samba (2-0) sets, while Rajouri defeated Jammu (2-0), while in Under-14 boys league matches, Udhampur beat Reasi, Jammu got better of Doda, Ramban outplayed Kathua and Rajouti blanked Poonch.
In Under-17 boys league matches, Samba trounced Jammu, Rajouri defeated Kathua and Udhampur prevailed over Reasi.
