JAMMU, Nov 19: Outplaying University of Jammu in the men’s section and Panjab University Chandigarh in the women’s section, Punjabi University (PU) Patiala bagged the double title in the All India Inter-Zonal Handball (Men and Women) Championship, which concluded here today.
Earlier, in the men’s final, Punjabi University, Patiala defeated University of Jammu by (27-22) points, while in the women’s summit clash, Punjabi University, Patiala got beter of Panjab University, Chandigarh by (28-27) points.
B R Sharma, Principal Secretary, Planning & Development Department, Jammu and Kashmir Government was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who gave away prizes to the players and winning teams. He congratulated the winners and also appreciated the students, organizer, and the technical officials.
Prof R D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, while addressing the gathering, congratulated the Director of Sports and his team for under taking the challenging job of conducting such mega events in a row. He acknowledged the efforts of the employees of the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education for making this mega event a great success.
Earlier Prof. Dhian S. Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu presented welcome address and gave detailed report of the Championship.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Special Secretary to Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr Prakash Antahal, B K Magotra, H S Chib, Dr Vinod Bakshi, Madam, Narayani Jamwal, Dr Vinod Bakshi, Mahesh Sharma, Goutam Sharma, Vikesh Sharma, Ravish Vaid, Gagan Kumar, P D Singh and Jai Bharat.
The officiating team of the tournament was Anoop Singh, Karamveer Singh, Sanjeev Singh, Vikas Sharma, Karun Magotra, Govind Ram, Prabhleen Kour, Priya Charak, Bhanu Priya, Roshni Sharma, Pooja Sharma and Ashish Dogra and Rahul Bakshi.
The tournament was conducted under the supervision of Prof Dhian S Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, Jammu.
