Promote sports through comprehensive scheduling: Navin Agarwal

JAMMU, Mar 20: Making healthy changes in the customary Annual Calendar of Activities, after having threadbare discussions with the officers, the Director General of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Navin Agarwal said that the time is ripe to promote sports through comprehensive scheduling.
The DG Sports said this during a meeting organized by the Department with regard to finalizing of the Annual Calendar of Activities at Conference Hall, MA Stadium, here today.
Mr Agarwal asked the officers to hold the activities in specific sports disciplines simultaneously in all the districts to avoid their overlapping and help the field staff of the Department to organize activities in a befitting manner.
He gave strict directions to the officers to hold intra-murals upto April end, inter-schools and inter-zonals by May end, inter-districts by June end and the State Level Competitions by September end to help the Department prepare State teams in long-duration coaching camps prior to their participation in National Level events.
Mr Agarwal also said that expert trainers within and outside the State, will be hired for imparting special training to the players for better results of the State teams at the National scene.
Responding to non-participation of some selected players in representing the State, Mr Agarwal gave strict directions to his officers to debar those players, who after getting selected in the State teams fail/refuse to participate in the event, at-least for next 3 years.
The Director General also asked the concerned to debar those institutions from participation, which fail to submit 50 percent Games Fund with the Department. He, however asked them to furnish notices to these institutions before taking any action.
Mr Agarwal also asked the officers to make inroads for Archery in other districts and not in Kargil only. He asked them to purchase necessary equipment and organize technical workshops in this sporting discipline.
He directed the District Youth Services and Sports Officers of various districts to prepare teams, atleast in 20 games for Inter-District participation.
The meeting among other officers of the Department was attended by Joint Director, Madan Lal; Deputy Director, Jammu, Ved Parkash; Deputy Director Physical Education, Kanchan Bala and Deputy Director, Mirza Hussain.
