JAMMU, Dec 4: Defeating Young Stars in an easy contest by 9 wickets in the summit clash, Project Model Higher Secondary School lifted the Under-16 Inter-School Cricket Cup, being organised by Country Cricket Club at Country Cricket Stadium Gharota, here.
Batting first, YSCC scored 143 runs in 30 overs. Himal and Daman Singh contributed 38 each. For Project Model, Nand Lal captured 3 wickets, Arnav and Dhruv took 2 wickets each and Rameshwar claimed 1 wicket.
In reply, PMHSS batsmen achieved the target in 27 overs with solid batting performances by Arnav (66) and Dhruv (43). Shourya was the lone wicket to fall, who was dismissed by Ritwik of Young Stars. Arnav was adjudegd as the man of the match for his superb knock. The man of the series was awarded to Daman Preet Singh.
SP Rural Jammu, Suram Singh was the chief guest, who lavished praise for the organisers for holding this mega event in a befitting manner.
He said sports and games help youth not to derail from the mainstream, besides helping them not to fall prey to drugs and other allied social evils.
Accompanying him was the President of the Country Cricket Club, Vikrant Sharma; Secretary Country Cricket Club, Sandeep Singh and SHO Gharota Rajinder Sharma.
A host of dignitaries, parents, students and staff members of the schools graced the occasion with their presence.
The organising team of Garu Ram, Kashish Abrol and Sanjay Kumar was also appreciated and congratulated for its laborious efforts.
