JAMMU, Jan 17: Press Club 11 defeated Smashers Cricket Club in an easy contest by 20 runs today in the ongoing Republic Day T-20 Cricket Cup, being organised by Nirbhay Bharat Foundation at Khel Gaon Nagrota, near here.
The slogan of the tournament is “Say no to drugs, yes to sports.”
Tarun Uppal, Chairman Nirbhay Bharat Foundation was the chief guest on the occasion, whereas Sunil Bhagat was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Uppal said that the event is being organised with an objective to serve a twin purpose of promoting sports in the Union Territory and involving more and more youth in sporting activities to save them from falling prey to drugs and other allied social evils.
He said Khel Gaon has become a sports hub in Jammu and organising mega events in its arena provides ample opportunity to the budding sportspersons to showcase their talent.
Sunil said that the sports enthusiasts should adopt sports for better career progression and work with more zeal and dedication in this field besides terming sports activities vital for maintaining physical and mental well being.
The match was officiated by Sachin Singh and Sunil Thapa as umpires, while the tournament is being held under the overall supervision of chief organiser Naveen Koul.
