Powergrid Inter-Regional Carrom, Bridge Tournament ER-I lifts Carrom Championship, NR-I wins Bridge title

JAMMU, July 25: ER-I claimed the trophy in the Carrom team Championship, while NR-I emerged winner in Bridge team event in the Inter–Regional Carrom & Bridge Tournament 2012 at Hotel KC Cross Roads, Sector-10, Panchkula, here today.
Earlier, in the carrom team  championship ER-I defeated WR-I by 2-1 in a keenly contested finals. While both the teams won one single match each, it was the doubles match that decided the tie in favour of ER-I.
ER-I and WR-I had reached the finals by defeating SR-I and POSOCO respectively in the semi finals of this category.  The singles event saw complete domination of Kumar Adarsh of ER-I. Throughout the tournament he remained unbeaten and carried the same form and luck into the finals. In the finals he defeated Rajat Nag (NER). Earlier he had also defeated G.Narsingh Roa(SR-I) in the semifinals Rajat Nag (NER) had reached finals by defeating D.M.Vhatkar (WR-I) in the semifinals.
In mens double tourney, G.Narsing Roa & Dayanand (SR-I)  got better off  Kumar Adarsh and Soumitra Roy(ER-I) 19-15,12-25,15-13  .
Meanwhile, in the bridge events, NR-I emerged as the top ranked team with a cumulative score of 55. ER-I & ER-II achieved 2nd and 3rd rankings with their respective scores of 52 & 37 . POSOCO was ranked fourth with score of 3.

After the matches the closing ceremony was held in which prizes and medals were distributed among the players and match officials. The closing ceremony was chaired by  S C Singh , Executive Director NRTS-II . He distributed the prizes among the winners. In his remarks he congratulated the winners and encouraged other players to perform better in future. He highlighted the importance of sports in our daily lives and stressed upon the fact that sound mind needs a sound and fit body and it is due to  this fact that all should participate in  one or other sporting activity. He said these sports activities teach us team spirit and sportsmanship which are the most vital values for the overall growth of  an individual. He also complimented the organizers for organizing the tournament effectively and successfully.  K R Suri GM(O&M), Pramod Kumar, DGM(F) &  Stanley Mathews , Chief Manager (HR), S S Pall Chief Manager(Chandigarh)  were among the prominent persons who graced the occasion. The vote of thanks was presented by  Stanley Mathews , Chief Manager(HR).
The tournament ended with a cultural item in which rich and diverse culture of the area was showcased.
