POONCH, June 21: As a part of weeklong celebrations on the occasion of Raising Day of J&K Police, District Police Poonch organized Anti Tobacco and Anti Drug Abuse Rally at Surankote, here.
The rally was attended by around 350 students drawn from different schools of the town besides prominent citizens from all walks of life.
The students were holding placards having slogans indicating the ill effects of narcotic drugs and liquor / cigarette smoking etc.
The rally started from Bus Stand Surankote and culminated at PS Surankote where some students and prominent citizens addressed the gathering about the ill effects of tobacco and drug abuse.
Later the students also visited Police Station Surankote where the officers have briefed the students about the working of Police Station as a part of familiarization programme.
The students who spoke on the occasion were also given cash reward so as to boost their morale.
SP Poonch Shamsheer Hussan while speaking on the occasion exhorted upon the students to act as torch bearers against social evil of consumption of narcotic drugs, liquor, cigarette smoking, psychotropic substances etc among the society.
He asked the students to impress upon their relatives, friends etc. to avoid use of drugs and live simple, healthy life style and become a good citizen and contribute towards betterment of society.
Prominent, among those who were present on the occasion included Ajay Sharma, DySP Surankote; SHO Surankote, Tariq Manhas; Hamid Manhas, Khushdev Sharma, Hamid Rana, Ayoub Shabnam and Azad Khan.
A Road Safety Awareness Programme was also organized at Mendhar town wherein about 200 drivers of different commercial vehicles have participated.
