SRINAGAR, Feb 9: Under its civic action program, police organized sports events in Handwara, Awantipora and Srinagar today.
A police spokesman said the events were organized to promote sports culture among youth. “The aim to organize such events is to impart and inculcate the sense of discipline, sportsmanship and to boost the sports culture among the youth of the valley,” he said
He said the sports event in Handwara was organized at Police Station Vilgam, in Awantipora at District Police Lines Awantipora and in Srinagar, the sports event was organized by Police Station Nowhatta.
“Hundreds of youth and students of respective areas of these districts participated enthusiastically in knock-out tournaments of Carrom, Volley ball, khokho, Badminton, Chess, Table Tennis and Kabaddi. The participants were encouraged by the chairing officers, besides; winners and runner ups were suitably awarded,” he said.
