Police Mela for noble cause witnesses huge participation

JAMMU, Mar 22: Jammu and Kashmir Police organized a Police Public Mela for a noble cause of the welfare of martyrs’ families, which was inaugurated by the Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh in an impressive and well attended function at Gulshan Ground here today.
This was 25th Mela organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association (JKPWWA) and a large number of people from all walks of life participated in it.
Earlier, amid great enthusiasm, after lighting the traditional lamp, the chief guest described the event as a bridge between police and public.
He said that such events provide an opportunity to the people and the police to assemble, interact with each other which unveil the humane face of the cops. He appreciated the efforts of JKPWWA and the Police Organization for organizing such Melas in a befitting manner since years which has helped to strengthen the police public relations.
Mr. Singh said that the Melas also provide an opportunity to memorize the sacrifices of Jammu and Kashmir Police, they offered while ensuring the security and safety of the people. He said that during the years of turmoil JKP families suffered a lot as a number of jawans and officers of the force laid down their lives for the integrity of the State.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the Mela, the DGP, K Rajendra disclosed that the receipts realized from the raffle draw tickets are utilized for the welfare of families of police martyrs.
He said that the Organization is providing facilities to the children of police personnel and martyrs for coaching in professional examinations in order to provide competitive edge among them. In order to provide holistic support to the police families and to provide necessary assistance to the martyr’s wards for their adoption in different schools within and outside the state is also on our agenda, said the DGP.
During the Mela more than 60 stalls were established by different police welfare units and products of different regions of the State were put for sale to the public. People from all shades of life showed their keen interest in purchase of these items and the children enjoyed the amusement items during the day long Mela. Cultural groups presented different items which were enjoyed by the people. Tambola and traditional cultural items were also the main attraction for the people in the Mela.
Earlier, the Chairperson of (JKPWWA), K.Vijaya Rajendra briefed the visiting dignitaries about the objectives of organizing such Melas. She said that JKPWWA has undertaken various fund raising activities to fulfil and nurture the requirements for the welfare of police families with special emphasizes on widows and orphans.
Meanwhile, small children drawn from the gathering picked the lucky numbers for prizes of different categories in presence of Director General of Police (DGP), K Rajendra, senior police officers, Chairperson, JKPWWA, K Vijaya Rajendra and lady members of Parivar.
The bumper prize (Car Amaze Honda) with family pack 11 items was won by raffle draw ticket number (26341 Series I).

Accordingly 12th prize, (100 Cash prizes of Rs.5000) went to ticket numbers with their last four digits 4872.
Likewise 13th prize (1000 cash prizes of Rs.1000) went to tickets having last three digits 378.
