Police holds UT level Rafting competitions

REASI, Mar 15: Police organized UT level Rafting competition in Chenab River at Baradari, here under Civic Action Programme, today.
SSP Amit Gupta was accompanied by ASP Reasi Master Popsy and DySP Headquarter Neeraj Padyar inaugurated the competition in presence of a huge gathering.
A total of eight teams from different parts of the UT participated in the mega event which was witnessed by the huge gathering.
There were two events in the championship – time trials sprint and head-to-head sprint marathon down river race. Points earned from each event were accumulated to decide the Champion team.
In the nail biting competition, the Rafting Federation J&K stood first, while Reasi -B Rafting Club remained second and the Bhaderwah Rafting team stood third in the sprint Event.
In the head to head competition, Rafting Federation J&K stood first and Udhampur Rafting team stood runner up.
The winners were felicitated with a cash prize. In time trials sprint winners were given Rs.15000, while runner up was awarded with Rs. 10,000 and second runner up was given Rs.5000, while in head-to-head sprint, winner was given Rs.25000 and runner up was given Rs 15000.
The purpose of the event was to promote adventure tourism in the district and to impress upon the youth to involve in such activities for self employment.
“A training module in Rafting of two weeks for local youth from every nook and corner is also being conducted by Reasi Police,” informed officials of the Police.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP Reasi Amit Gupta said that the Police is committed to give a platform to the youth of the district so that they can excel in every field whether it is sports or education. He also highlighted the different initiatives taken by District Police and thanked members of White Water Federation of J&K members and all the participants for their enthusiasm.
