Players’ exhibit talent in Hockey, Kabaddi on opening day; wrestlers flex muscles

*ASCOMS, GMC Jammu register berths in next stage of Cricket

JAMMU, Oct 30: On the opening day of the Inter-Collegiate Hockey and Kabaddi Championships, the players exhibited their talent, whereas wrestlers flexed muscles in the Inter-Collegiate Wrestling Championship. In Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament, ASCOMS and GMC Jammu crushed their rivals to register berths in the next stage.
It is to mention here that Inter-Collegiate Championships in different disciplines is being organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu under the supervision of its Director Dr Daud Iqbal Baba.
The second day continued with great competition and courage in the ongoing Inter Collegiate Men Hockey Competitions at Jammu University’s hockey ground.
In the first match, PG Arts got the better of MAM College in the close contested match by the margin of 2-1, whereas in second match, GDC Paloura got walkover as the opponent team failed to report to the venue.
In the third match, GDC Hiranagar got the upper hand against MBS College by the margin of 1-0, whereas in the fourth match witnessed a great exhibition of skill and fitness by GDC Kathua as it won the match from GDC Poonch by 3-0.
The matches were witnessed by the huge crowed and also the Director of Sports and Physical Dr Daud Iqbal Baba who was present during all the matches to boost the morale of the teams as well as players.
The matches were officiated by Dalvinder Singh, Jagjeet Singh, Jagjeet Singh Reen, Joginder Singh, Matinder Pal Singh, Ranveet Singh, Harinder Pal Singh and Harmik Singh.
The Inter Collegiate Kabbadi Tournament for women commenced at Varsity’s sports stadium. The tournament was organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu in which Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports & Physical Education alongwith match officials Ajay Gupta, Anil Sharma, Ankush Gupta, Keshav Singh, Amandeep Singh and Gagan Kumar were present and witnessed the first match which was played between GCW Kathua and Trikuta Degree College. GCW Kathua beat Trikuta Degree College by 11 points (63-52).
The Inter Collegiate Wrestling Championship for men got underway at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu. The championship was inaugurated by Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
This is for the first time of the University of Jammu that more than 90 wrestlers from 22 colleges are participating in the championship.
In 57 kgs, Satvir Singh of GDC Paloura beat Narvind Singh and Vishal Thakur of GDC Kathua, whereas Mohammad Arif of GDC Basholi beat Rajesh Khajuria of GDC Ramnagar.
In 61 kgs, Arun of GDC Jindrah beat Bhanu Partap of GGM Science College, whereas Bagh Hussain of GDC Hiranagar beat Mohammad Guffar of GDC Bishnah.
In 65 kgs, Amit Manhas of GDC Khour beat Ajay Kumar of GDC Reasi, whereas Anil Sharma of GDC Ramnagar beat Ram Saroop of GDC Akhnoor.
In 70 kgs, Vishwajeet Singh of GDC Kathua beat Bunty Kumar of GDC Khour, whereas Arshad Ali of GDC Kalakote beat Arif Khan of GDC Basholi.
In 74 kgs, Javed Sheikh of GDC Basholi beat Rahul Sharma of GDC Hiranagar, whereas Sahil Sharma of GDC Akhnoor beat Vinod Kumar of GDC Ramnagar.
In 79 kgs, Mohit Sharma of GDC Mahanpur beat Rahul Singh of PG, whereas in 92 kgs, Ajay Kumar of GDC Khour beat Daleep Singh of GDC Kathua, whereas Hem Raj of GDC Basholi beat Abhimanyu of PG.
The bouts were officiated under the supervision of Jai Bharat NIS Coach. The other referees include Sahil Sharma, Bansi Lal Tidyal and Mulkh Raj Sharma.
In Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament, ASCOMS and GMC Jammu outclassed their rivals and entered into the next stage.
In the first match, ASCOMS registered win over GDC Jindrah by 8 wickets and entered into pre-quarterfinal stage of the tournament.
Electing to bat first, GDC Jindrah made paltry 70 runs in 14.4 overs by losing all the wickets. Sourav, Sunil and Akhil made 16, 10 and 8 runs respectively.
For ASCOMS, Qadir scalped 4 wickets, while Burhan took 1 wicket and Sameer pocketed one wicket.
In the second inning, ASCOMS chased the target in 8 overs by losing only 2 wickets. Yuvraj chipped in 30 runs, while Abdul Basit and Jagmeet scored unbeaten 24 and 14 runs respectively.
For GDC Jindrah, Nadeem took one wicket.
In the second match, GMC Jammu outplayed GDC Akhnoor by 7 wickets and registered berth in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
Batting first, GDC Akhnoor scored 97 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 18 overs. Rovin was the top scorer with 42 runs, while Subir and Sumit made 11 and 10 runs respectively.
For GMC Jammu, Sawan scalped 3 wickets, while Abutallah took 2 wickets. Palash and Danish clinched 1 wicket each.
In reply, GMC Jammu chased the target in 12.5 overs by losing 3 wickets. Sawan scored unbeaten 46 runs, while Shaurya made 36 runs.
For GDC Akhnoor, Sumit, Retik and Rovin scalped one wicket each.
The matches were officiated y Rahul Kumar, Amandeep Singh, Raj Kumar Bakshi, while the scoreboard was maintained by Vijay Kumar Raina.
