‘Pinkathon’ organised to promote health awareness among women

JAMMU, Oct 21: As a part of nationwide initiative, a running event ‘Pinkathon’ aimed at generating awareness about health and fitness among women was flagged off by Neha Jalali, Deputy Director, DD News Jammu and Regional Outreach Bureau, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, from Rotary Club, Gandhi Nagar, here today.
Around 150 participants including 100 women participated in the event.
Women from various Colleges, Schools, Clubs, besides housewives participated in the event.
In her address, Ms Jalali emphasised the need for creating awareness about the various non communicable and lifestyle related diseases especially for women.
She said that a strong nation as well as a healthy family could be built only if its women were strong and healthy. She mentioned about various health and fitness related initiatives taken by the Government of India including National Programme for Non Communicable diseases and Khelo India.
She urged people especially women to come forward for making these programmes successful and for creating a ‘Swasth Bharat’.
The event also saw the participation from members of the Jammu Rotary Club. Many male members also participated in the event to support the cause of health awareness for women. The event included a 3 km run from Rotary Park, Gandhi Nagar- Green Belt Park Road – Panama Chowk and back to Rotary Park.
About 50 members of Magic Bus India Foundation, an NGO also participated in this prestigious event.
The event concluded with distribution of medals amongst the participants.
The Pinkathon was organised in 6 countries and 63 cities where more than 11,000 women participated in a 3-5 km Run at today, which is being celebrated as Pinkathon Day to showcase solidarity with the cause.
The initiative that was conceptualised by the Bollywood actor and model Milind Soman in 2012, utilizes community running as a tool for creating awareness regarding health. Since its launch, it has become a grassroots movement with various running events being organized at regular intervals across 63 cities of the country and works through a network of ambassadors who motivate other women to participate in the running events.
Mukta Sharma is the ambassador for Jammu City and has been working with her team for creating awareness in the women of Jammu regarding the initiative. This was first of its kind initiative in Jammu for which a promo run was organised on 13th of this month at the same venue.
The event was organised by Pinkathaon Jammu in association with Jammu Runners Group.
