SRINAGAR, July 5: All-rounder Parvez Rasool has become first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir who has been selected in the Indian squad, which is due to tour Zimbabwe later this month for a limited overs series.
It has been remarkable journey for a cricketer who was once falsely detained by Bangalore Police for having explosives in his cricket kit bag and was released later without any charges.
He was just another cricketer till J&K head coach Bishan Singh Bedi started mentoring him and he didn’t disappoint topping both bowling and batting charts for J&K.
Bijbehara’s all-rounder, who has played 17 first class matches scoring 1000 plus runs laced with three centuries and 46 wickets thus far, wants to translate faith of his fans and selectors into performance.
Parvez has also been selected for Indian A squad, which will tour to South Africa next month.
Parvez had a measured response to his selection. “Yes it is a massive moment for my career and Kashmiris. I expected myself to be selected for the Indian squad this time around more so when media reported some senior players will be rested”, Parvez told the Excelsior minutes after his selection.
“I would like to thank selectors who picked me in the squad. I have worked hard over the years to make this happen but it wouldn’t have been possible without good wishes from the fans. I would make sure I give my 100 percent on the field and repose faith of selectors and fans that they have put in me”, said enthusiastic Parvez.
