JAMMU, Apr 26: The 1st La-Veeraz Cup Chess Fiesta was held at the LA-VEERAZ Cloth Factory, Khara Madana (Bari Brahmana), witnessing participation from 65 players aged between 5 and 70 years in a highly competitive atmosphere.
The event was played in a rapid format under the Swiss system, featuring 7 rounds of intense games. Paras Sharma emerged as the champion, securing the first position. Veteran player SP Sharma claimed second place, while Maxim Singh finished third. The fourth to tenth positions were secured by Rithvik Gandotra, Pazhany Kohli, Sumit Grover, Harinandan, Rajyawardhan Singh, Akashdeep Singh and Surinder Gupta respectively.
Special category awards were also announced. Amrita Gupta was declared Best Woman Player. In the junior categories, Mitansh won Best U-15, Ishwam Kwatra Best U-13, Keshav Best U-11, Yuvaan Best U-9 and Karan Best U-7.
The event was graced by Avtar Singh, Ex-DDC Member, who was the chief guest and distributed cash prizes worth Rs 25,000 among the winners. The tournament was conducted under the supervision of Stuti Gupta, Chief Arbiter, with Aditi Sharma serving as Deputy Chief Arbiter. The overall coordination was done under the guidance of Meenal Gupta, President, All J&K Chess Association, who supervised the smooth conduct of the championship.
