Paradise XI lifts title trophy in cricket

JAMMU, Apr 20: Defeating Legal Star XI by a narrow margin of 15 runs in the summit clash, Paradise XI lifted the title trophy in cricket of the ongoing Lawyers Annual Sports Meet 2014, which concluded at MA Stadium, here today.
Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand was the chief guest on the concluding ceremony, while Minister for Sports, Raman Bhalla was the guest of honour, who later-on distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
Earlier, batting first, Paradise XI scored 98 runs in the stipulated 16 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Vikas top scored with 21runs, while Guru Partap Singh and Sahil Aggarwal contributed 14 and 12 runs to the total respectively. For Regal Star XI, Sanjay Sharma took 2 wickets, while Amit, AP Singh, Bharadwaj and Irfan Khan claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Legal Star XI managed to score 83 runs to lose the match by a narrow margin of 15 runs. AP Singh top scored with 26 runs, while Gourav Jamwal and Amit Sharma 11 and 10 runs respectively. For Paradise XI, Sahil Aggarwal was the pick of the bowlers, who alongwith Ajay Manhas scalped 3 wickets, while Ravi Abrol took 2 wickets and Guru Partap claimed one. Sahil Aggarwal was adjudged man of the match, Guru Partap Singh bagged man of the series and best batsman award, while Ravi Abrol and Samiullah were adjudged best bowler and best fielder respectively.
The match was officiated by Rajinder Singh and Shashi Pal as umpires, while Bunty Kumar was the scorer.
Meanwhile, in volleyball finals, Lions Club defeated Mavericks Club in straight sets by (25-22, 25-19) to lift the title.
The gold medal in various athletic events went to Ajay Singh Manhas (Javelin), Jatinder Singh (Long Jump), Ajay Singh Manhas (Discus), Ajay Singh Manhas (Shot Put), Jatinder Singh (100 Mtr), Umesh Sharma (200 Mtr).
AP Singh, Pardeep Majotra, Ajay Singh Manhas and Pooja Jamwal were adjudged best athletes in below-35, above-35, above-45 and female category respectively.
