Painting competition on ‘Drug abuse & drunken driving’ held

JAMMU, June 11: With an objective of creating awareness among the children about harmful effects of drug abuse, the Excise and Taxation Department today organized a painting and slogan writing competition at Banyan International School in Babliana.
The theme of the competition was “Drug Abuse and Drunken Driving” in which more than two hundred students hailing from different schools participated and made eye catching posters and slogans.
Deputy Excise Commissioner, Executive Ghanshyam Singh was the chief guest in the competition.
While addressing the students, Deputy Excise Commissioner exhorted upon the student community and teaching fraternity to assist the department in creating awareness among the young about the social evils like drug abuse, drunken driving and smoking.
Pertinent to mention that the Excise Department is contemplating to launch massive awareness programmes which would culminate on International Day against drug trafficking on June 26.
The event was held under the aegis of Corporate Social Responsibility Corpus Fund which was launched last year to create public awareness against drug abuse and drunken driving.
Deputy Excise Commissioner (Accounts) Shagun Sharma, Deputy Excise Commissioner (Distilleries) Nagendra Singh Jamwal and Chairman of Banyan International School Vicky Mahajan, ETO North Tina Mahajan and ETO South Sourav Sharma were also present on the occasion.
