Organising tournaments in memory of martyrs alright, but they deserve much more: Sunil Sethi

JAMMU, Mar 27: Expressing satisfaction over the organization of a galaxy of tournaments in the memory of martyrs in Jammu, renowned Advocate and Chief Spokesperson BJP, Sunil Sethi said that holding tournaments in the name of martyrs is alright, but doing much more for them and their families is the need of the hour.
Mr Sethi said this while addressing a large gathering of sportspersons on a valedictory function of T20 Cricket Tournament namely ‘Salute & Tribute to Siachen Martyrs’, organized by Parade Sports Association at Parade ground, here.
He said that such tournaments apart from promoting sports, infuse national spirit among the youth of the State, besides helping them not to derail from the mainstream.
Mr Sethi who was chief guest on the occasion, was accompanied by Mahant Rameshwar Dass Ji as the guest of honour.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Vijay Sabarwal, president Parade Sports Association (PSA), Dr Anil Kumar Mahajan, general secretary PSA, Anil Mehta, Des Rattan Dubey and Rajesh Jaitley.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Simula XI scored a modest total of 96 runs in 17.2 overs.  Atul Sharma top scored with 34 runs, while Hardeep Singh and Shashi Kumar contributed 21 and 19 runs to the total respectively. For RCC Srinagar, Nitin Mehra and skipper Kuldeep Kumar were the wreckers-in-chief, who took 4 wickets each by conceding 17 and 11 runs respectively. Nitin Mehra’s 4-wicket haul included a brilliant hat-trick, which restricted the rivals to a modest total.
In reply, RCC Srinagar, after losing 3 early wickets for just 13 runs in 4 overs, managed to chase the target comfortably in 15.5 overs, thanks to a brilliant unbeaten partnership of 84 runs between First Class cricketer Ramdayal Punia and Satish Kumar. Satish made 39 runs off 36 balls with the help of 3 fours and one six, while Ramdayal contributed unbeaten 37 runs off 31 balls, studded with 6 delectable boundaries. For Simula XI, Raman Dutta took 2 wickets by conceding 22 runs in his 3.5 overs. Nitin Mehra was adjudged as man of the match for his brilliant bowling display, while Satish Kumar was declared as man of the series and Jating Wadhawan and Kuldeep Kumar were adjudged as best batsman and best bowler respectively.
Later-on, the chief guest presented a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 25,000 to RCC Srinagar, while Simula XI received a cash prize of Rs 15, 000 and a trophy from the chief guest on the occasion.
President RCC Srinagar, CL Suri and general secretary Rajesh Dhar were present on the occasion, while the team is being coached by Madan Mohan.
