JAMMU, Mar 13: The Hockey J&K inaugurated an Open Hockey tournament at K K Hakku Stadium here today. The tournament was inaugurated by Pardeep Sharma, former MLC who emphasized the importance of involving youth in sports.
The first match of the tournament witnessed a fervent crowd, played between Lashipur Hockey Club Kathua and Khalsa Warriors which was won by Khalsa warriors by 4-1.
Both teams showcased stellar performances, with excellent stick work and combination, but Karandeep Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Manmeet Singh and Karanjeet led their respective teams to victory with individual spectacular performances.
Sukhwinder Singh Captain of Lachirakh Hockey Club Kathua team expressed satisfaction with the arrangements for the tournament and applauded the fair play and facilitation of outstation players, marking an exemplary initiative for the first time.
Among the dignitaries present were Ashok Singh former Divisional Sports Officer Jammu, Rajinder Singh former President Hockey India, G.S Bakshi, Rajinder Koul (Senior vice President Hockey J&K), Daljeet Singh (Member Hockey J&K), Karamjit Singh (President Kashmir Sikh Sangat), Gurpreet Singh (Vice President Hockey J&K), Ishan Sharma (Treasurer Hockey J&K), Tejinder Singh ( Resident Secy Hockey J&K), Supinder Deep Singh Bakshi (General Secretary Hockey J&K), RP Sarna, members of Kashmir Sikh Sangat besides public and players. The match was officiated by Iqbal Singh (NIS Hockey Coach J&K Police), Karanjit Singh (JKP) and Harmanan Singh.
