Numana, Tabasum duo of GCW Gandhi Nagar win Debating Contest

JAMMU, Oct 7: The team from the Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, consisting of Numana Ibrahim and Tabasum Choudhary, lifted Dr Jagmohan Singh Memorial Trophy by virtue of securing maximum marks in the Inter-Collegiate/Departmental Debating Contest organized by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu as part of “Display Your Talent”, here.
Kritika Sethi from The Law School, University of Jammu, secured first individual prize, while Polina Singh Kala from Department of English and Apoorva Jamwal from Department of Economics, University of Jammu, bagged the second and third individual prize, respectively.
The Certificates of Merit for individual performances were awarded to Atika Sharma from Govt Degree College (Boys), Kathua and Tabasum Choudhary from Govt College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
The topic of the Debate was In the opinion of the House, “Only legislation enactment is not enough for the security of women in India”.
The competition was conducted under the overall supervision of Dr Vishva Raksha from the Department of Sociology, who was the Teacher in-Charge for this event.
Prof Neeru Sharma, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee was the chief guest on this occasion and distributed the prizes amongst the winners.
Students from the various Post Graduate Teaching Departments of the University and its Affiliated Colleges, expressed their views for and against the preposition. Each participant was given five minutes to speak in Hindi or English on the given topic.
Eminent Educationist Jagdish Chander, Dr Anupama Vohra, Associate Professor in English and Dr ML Sharma, Cardiothoracic Vascular Surgeon, were amongst the adjudicators for the Debating Contest.
The programme was compeered by Akriti Sharma, Department of English, member Students Cultural Council whereas Joginder Singh acted as time keeper.
Among others present on the occasion were Prof NK Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare and Prof Jasbir Singh, Provost Hostels (Boys).
