JAMMU, Mar 1: NHPC Limited, Regional Office, Jammu distributed scholarship worth Rs 21,22000 today among 225 students of Government Schools in a simple function presided over by Tarsem Lal, Chief Education Officer, Jammu at Govt Higher Secondary School, Bahu Fort, here.
These scholarships were given to the students of Government Higher Secondary Schools, Bazar Qasaban, Sunjwan, Bahu Fort and Govt High Schools, Dogra Hall, Sandwan, Chowadi and Bhatyari.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Ekramul Haque, Chief (HR), B M Gupta Chief (Finance) from NHPC Limited and Principals and Headmasters of concerned schools.
Distribution of these scholarships was aimed at encouraging parents to send their SC/ST and Girl students to school, lighten their financial burden on school education and sustain their efforts to support their children to complete school education. The benefit will form the foundation for their educational attainment and provide a level playing field in the competitive employment arena.
Empowerment through education, which is one of the objectives of this initiative, has the potential to lead to upliftment of the socio economic conditions of the girl community.
Earlier, Ekramul Haque, Chief (HR) presented welcome address and advised the students to take interest in their studies and make their Institutions and parents proud of them.
Speaking on the occasion, Tarsem Lal, Chief Education Officer said that the initiative taken by NHPC Limited will go a long way in helping students obtain education at the school level, which is need of the hour.
He further said that NHPC Limited, besides its core business of Construction of Hydroelectric Projects, is concerned about its responsibility towards economic development of the Society in and around its locations which is quite appreciable.
