JAMMU, Dec 18: New Gurdaspur Hockey Club and Guru Nanak Nagar Hockey Club (GNNHC) defeated their rivals convincingly to advance into the next round of the ongoing 3rd Sant Gurbaksh Singh Danna Memorial Hockey Tournament, being organized by Santpura Danna Charitable Trust, Guru Nanak Nagar, Jammu, under the aegis of Hockey J&K at KK Hakhu Astroturf Stadium, here.
In the first match, New Gurdaspur defeated 20-Punjab by six goals to four (6-4) via tie-breaker.
Earlier, the match ended in a (1-1) draw in the stipulated time. For New Gurdaspur, Roshan was the goal scorer in 1st minute, while for 20-Punjab, Harpreet Singh scored the goal in 8th minute. In the tie-breaker, the goal scorers for New Gurdaspur were Harjot, Rashpinder, Vishal, Sandeep and Akash, while for 20-Punjab, Jodhveer, Charanveer and Lovejot scored the goals.
Kuldeep Handoo, Sports Officer, APHQ J&K Police was the chief guest while Rashid Ahmed, International Fencer and Member State Sports Council was the guest of honour.
In another match played today, Guru Nanak Nagar Hockey Club defeated Power House Hockey Club Poonch by (2-1) goals. Devinder Singh scored goals in 6th and 38th minutes for GNNHC, while Vishal Soodan netted the lone goal for Power House Club in 8th minute.
Brig DS Jamwal was the chief guest on the occasion.
The matches were officiated by Charanjeet Singh (Tournament Director), Manjeet Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Gurjeet Singh, Jagjit Singh, Joginder Singh, Daljeet Singh Bhatia, Amarjeet Singh and Kulwant Singh.
In tomorrow’s fixture, New Gurdaspur Hockey Club will take on Pathankot XI at 1:30 pm, while GNNHC will take on JKP XI at 3 pm.
