JAMMU, Dec 15: Nurturing Excellence in Sports Trust (NEST)-an organisation working towards development of sports, today selected five athletes from the State under its talent scouting programme, ‘Himalaya Mein Heeron Ki Khoj’ in two track events of 800 and 1500 meters covering young athletes in the age groups of 15-17 year.
The trials completed at the University of Jammu grounds under the guidance of technical penal headed by Chief Technical Officer, Retired SAI Athletics Coach, Ramesh Kumar Sharma.
“Now, these selected five athletes from J&K will take part in the second leg of selection to be held at Una in Himachal Pradesh. It was a successful exercise wherein over 311 athletes including 63 girls took part from Reasi, Udhampur, Kathua, Samba and Jammu,” said NEST Project Coordinator, Ankit Dhiman.
The selected five athletes are Shivani Thakur (800 mts), Shiwam Kumar (1500 mts), Karan Chandel (1500 mts) Dileep Kumar (800 mts) and Ranvir Singh (800 mts).
“Supported by the ONGC, the NEST initiative of talent search attracted a good number of athletes from different parts of the State despite adverse climate and examination season of 10th standard students,” Local Coordinator, Opinder Sharma informed.
