Need to support sports talent: Speaker

JAMMU, Dec 3: Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today  attended the concluding function of Jammu and Kashmir Veteran Athletic Championship (JKVAA) of Men and Women 2015 held at MA Stadium.
The event was organised by the J&K Veteran Athletic Association and sponsored by Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council in which 170 players across the State participated.
Emphasizing the need for supporting sports talent, the Speaker said that the youth of the State have tremendous potential and State has produced ace players in varied sports categories who have brought laurels to the State by participating at national and international levels.
Appreciating the role of participants especially old age groups who participated in the event, the Speaker said that engaging in sports activities keeps body fit and strong.
Gupta said that Government is committed to boost sports activities in the State and recently many significant decisions have been taken to create better facilities and funds have also been allocated for the purpose.
Speaker also distributed prizes among the top performers, who will further participate in the National Games in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh in January next year.
On the occasion, Speaker also presented shawls to the best women Athletes and congratulated them for participating in the event.
Secretary, State Sports Council, Mr Javaid Ahmed Shah, president JKVAA, M S Baba, General Secretary, JKAAA, Ravinder Singh, general secretary, JKVAA, Basotra, Sports Officer, Jammu, Ravi Singh besides a large number of sports lovers were also present on the occasion.
