Need to prioritize medal winning sports disciplines: Aggarwal

JAMMU, Jan 21: There is a dire need to give priority to medal winning sports disciplines in the State, apart from promoting major sports disciplines as it is the medals which help the State of Jammu and Kashmir to carve a space on the Country’s Sports Map.
This was stated by Director General Youth Services and Sports, Navin Aggarwal while felicitating the medal winners of 59th National School Games in the discipline of newly introduced game Silambam at Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, MA Stadium, here today.
Mr Aggarwal said that the Government of Jammu and Kashmir is committed to promote sports and games in the State, adding that in this regard it is leaving no stone unturned in enhancing sports infrastructure in every nooks and corners of the State.
Lauding the efforts of the medalists in fetching medals at the National scene, Mr Aggarwal said that the players can do much better with the betterment in infrastructure.
DG Sports felicitated 16 players of the State who won medals in the recently held Silambam National School Games held at Ranchi in Jharkhand.
The winners in girls section included Muskan of Dewan Devi Higher Secondary School, Jammu (silver); Savita of Shastri Memorial Higher Secondary School, Jammu (bronze); Tanisha of Shastri Memorial Higher Secondary School, Jammu (bronze); Khushi of Shangrilla Public School, Jammu (bronze) and Kanshika of Shangrilla Public School, Jammu (bronze).
The medal winners in boys category included Sahil Sharma of Shastri Memorial HSS, Jammu (silver); Yudhvir of BSF Paloura, Jammu (silver); Sourab of BMJN HSS, Jammu (bronze); Mohit of Dewan Devi HSS, Jammu  (bronze); Shreesh of Shangrilla Public School, Jammu (bronze); Pranav Jasrotia of Shangrilla Public School, Jammu (bronze); Dheeraj of BSF HSS Paloura, Jammu (bronze), Neeraj of BSF HSS  Paloura, Jammu (bronze); Abid Lodhi of Shangrilla Public School, Jammu (bronze) and Nishant of BSF HSS Paloura, Jammu (bronze).
Prominent among others present in the felicitation function were Madan Lal, Joint Director Youth Services and Sports and Deputy Directors Kanchan Bala and Mirza Hussain.
