Jammu, Feb 11: To enhance the footprints of NCC and to win the hearts and minds of the local population in Jammu Region, an ‘Abhinandan’ programme was organised at NCC Directorate Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh today.
With an aim to encourage maximum youth to join the India’s largest uniformed youth organisation of NCC and offering help by reaching out to the people in far flung areas/economically weaker students the NCC JK&L launched this initiative.
The NCC and Education Directorate identified Institutes/Schools in different areas and also needy and promising students requiring basic assistance. 400 School Bags with geometry kit, note pad, tiffin box and water bottle have been distributed to financially challenged and academically promising NCC Cadets and 60 Sets of sports equipment of Cricket, Volleyball and Badminton were provided to 30 Government Schools having lesser sports facilities.
The programme held at the NCC Directorate JK&L was graced by BK Singh, Principal Secretary, School Education Department J&K, Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary Youth Services and Sports Department J&K, Dr Ravi Shankar Sharma, Director School Education, Jammu and Suraj Singh, Rathore, Chief Education Officer, Jammu as well as senior serving Army Officers.
BK Singh and Alok Kumar addressed the gathering and motivated the young cadets to be better citizens and always remain physically fit. They also gave away the schoolbags and sports kits. A total of 63 financially challenged and academically promising NCC Cadets were given schoolbags and 22 Sets of sports equipment were handed over to representatives of Government Schools during the function. This little appreciation will definitely motivate the cadets and students in Schools/institutes to perform well not only in education and sports but in all aspects of life. The balance of the School bags and Sports kits will be presented in respective institutes by the Commanding Officers of different NCC Units under Group HQ Jammu.
Major General Ranjan Mahajan, Additional Director General, NCC JK&L also addressed the gathering and motivated the cadets to strive and shine in life. He emphasised the message of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha that NCC Cadets have a vital role in society to fight drug abuse. He also reiterated the importance of the newly launched NCC Alumni Association and highlighted its features and benefits of the Alumni Association to the gathering and asked the gathering to encourage all NCC Alumni to join the Association. Subsequently a special meet of the Alumni Association JK&L Chapter was also held to finalise a Road Map for the Association.
