Natrang stages ‘Bawa Jitto’ at Jhiri Mela

JAMMU, Nov 25: Natrang’s globally acclaimed mega Dogri play ‘Bawa Jitto’  kept thousands of the audiences spellbound at Jhiri Mela-2015 here this evening where 2nd consecutive show was presented by Natrang. The ultimate magic of theatre was visible all-over in the Jhiri Mela  when the supreme sacrifice of the folk hero of the farmers and a devotee of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi ‘Bawa Jitto’ enlivened by the electrifying acting of seasoned artists of Natrang. This is the major attraction of Jhiri Mela attracts lakhs of the audiences and people wait for a year for this superb mega theatrical event to happen. The staging of Bawa Jitto is supported by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and the Bawa Jitmal Shrine Mela Committee, Jammu.
Set in the rural backdrop, story of ‘Bawa Jitto’ portrays the age-old saga of exploitation of landless farmers by landlords. Due to the constant and persistent pressures of relatives, with a piece of land as bone of contention, Bawa Jitto, a hard working, farm less farmer is forced to leave his native village. Accompanied by his nine-year-old daughter, he takes shelter in the house of a friend in Shamachak, a nearby village.
The lead role of Bawa Jitto was played by the senior actor Neeraj Kant whereas the role of Bua Gauri was played by young artist Sanchita Dubey. Other senior profile artists of the state who mesmerized the audiences through their superb acting included Suresh Kumar, Vijay Bhatt, Subash Jamwal, Juhi Singh, Aishwarya Sathe, Mohit Sharma, Rahul Singh, Pawan Verma, Mohd. Yaseen, Ankush Lakhnotra, Rajan Thakyal, Pankaj Verma, Masood Qadir, Shivam Singh, Pallavi Mathur, Meenakshi, Vandana, Geet-anjali, Rohit Kumar, Sumit Sharma, Kuldeep Angral, Vishal Sharma, Piyush Anand, Rishabh Sharma and Mahikshit Singh.
The traditional narrative singers Girdhari Lal and Harbans Lal who are working with Natrang since 1986 are the real hero of the play and they received special appreciation The lights were designed and executed by Suraj Ganjoo. Sumeet Sharma coordinated the event and the show was assisted by Neeraj Kant.
