National Youth Day celebrated with enthusiasm across Jammu division

JAMMU, Jan 12: Various educational institutions as well as social and political organizations celebrated ‘National Youth Day’ with great enthusiasm across Jammu division, today.
Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) celebrated National Youth Day today on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda with great enthusiasm and spirit across all the district headquarters of the Jammu division on the direction of the Principal Secretary, Alok Kumar and Director, Gazanfar Ali. The 5-day National Youth Festival also took off today at Puducherry, which was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu, Jitender Mishra said that the philosophy of Swami and the ideals for which he lived and worked serve as a great source of inspiration for the Indian youth.
To commemorate Swami Vivekananda Ji’s birth anniversary as National Youth Day, the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu organized an online lecture on the topic “Spiritualizing Life and Living” by Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Dean, Faculty of Law and Registrar, University of Jammu. Prof. Manoj K. Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief gues.
Prof. Dhar congratulated Dean Students Welfare, Prof Prakash C. Antahal and his team for successfully organizing such a programme of high relevance. Citing the statistics that India is the country of youth, he asserted this programme as highly relevant and meaningful. Moreover, Swami Vivekanda’s vision has got all the essence which is required to make the youth of the country empowered, positive, courageous and thoughtful.
The School of Philosophy and Culture (SoPC), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), celebrated the Day as part of the ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and organized a discussion session on the theme “India of the Future” in the light of Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts. In the discussion, faculty members and students of the University discussed the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda and his contribution to the social and spiritual revival of India.
National Youth Day was celebrated under the joint auspices of National Service Scheme and Red Ribbon Club at Central Sanskrit University, Shri Ranbir Campus wherein Dr Brijendra, Associate Professor of Vidanta Hindu College Lucknow was the chief guest and keynote speaker. Brijendra Pandey gave an online lecture on the Indian concept of Swami Vivekananda and said that he was a true Karmayogi.
The NSS unit of Government College of Education (GCOE) Jammu organized a series of events virtually to celebrate National Youth Day.
“Plant a sapling” event was organized to spread awareness regarding the environment and its role in the healthy living of human beings. Joining the plantation drive, Principal Dr Kulvinder Kour and staff members namely Dr Shubhra Jamwal, Prof Sarita Dogra, Prof Shapia Shameem Bhatti and Prof Seema Kumari urged all present to plant saplings in their houses so as to reverse the adverse impact on the environment.
Even a cleanliness drive was conducted and a quiz competition was organized on the topic “Swami Vivekanand”. A poetry competition was also organized on the topic “Poems of Shri Aurobindo” and essay writing competition on the theme “Life and Teachings of Swami Vivekanand. Further, a webinar was organized which was based on the theme ‘Awareness on Alcoholic Addiction and Drug Abuse among Youth’.
The guest speakers of the webinar session were Kaushal Kishore and Akshat Kant. Kaushal Kishore is presently serving the nation as Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that just as the British had looted the country’s wealth and honor by making the country a slave, similarly drug abuse is making the youngsters slave.
Dr Shubhra Jamwal, NSS Nodal Officer addressed all the students and faculty and highlighted the activities carried out by NSS during this educational session. She said that NSS provided an opportunity to learn about society and to understand the issues of the community.
While celebrating the Day, Director National Institution of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, Prof (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal said that ‘youth are the future of every society and historic institutions will continue to act as a vibrant platform for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. He also paid rich tributes to Swami Vivekananda, on his birth anniversary and said the teachings of the Swamiji have inspired thousands of youth across the globe.
National Youth Day was celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda by General Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College Reasi wherein a sketch making competition, fitness run and video making competition were organized for the students. The event was organized jointly by NCC and NSS units of the College under the guidance of the Principal, Dr Chander Shekhar Gupta.
Govt College for Women Bhagwati Nagar organized a webinar on the topic “Life and Achievements of Swami Vivekananda” to commemorate the Day wherein Dr Shakun Sharma, Assistant Professor Sociology, GDC Marh was the resource person on the occasion who deliberated on the teachings and philosophy of one of the greatest philosopher and spiritual leader, Swami Vivekanand.
The Day was also celebrated by the NSS unit of GDC Thannamandi organizing an online essay writing competition under the patronage of Principal of the College Prof. (Dr.) Javaid Ahmed Qazi.
The NSS unit of GDC Bishnah organized an online discussion on the life of Swami Vivekananda and his iconic speech at Chicago in 1893 wherein a large number of NSS volunteers and other students participated and threw light on the theme of the discussion.
GDC Kathua today concluded its activities under the ‘Youth India Programme’ on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The event was organized by the NSS unit of the College wherein poster making and slogan writing competitions were organized.
The NSS unit of Govt College of Engineering and Technology Jammu commemorated the Day by organizing an online digital poster making competition under the patronage of College Principal Dr. Sameru Sharma, while the event was organized by NSS volunteers under the guidance of NSS Programme officer Dr Raman Gupta.
The Day was celebrated by GDC Jourian by organizing essay writing and slogan writing competitions. The program organized by NSS unit of the College wherein the Principal of the College laid stress on adoption of teaching of Swami Vivekananda in life practically.
To commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and National Youth Day GDC Bani organized an online essay writing and poster making competition under the patronship of Principal Dr. Vishal Sharma.
GDC Marh organized an online symposium on ‘Ideas of Swami Vivekananda’ under the chairmanship of College Principal Prof. Aekta Gupta, wherein the College Principal stressed upon the importance of celebrating.
A webinar was organised to celebrate the National Youth Day by Government Degree College Banihal in collaboration with Debates and Seminar Committee of the College under the overall supervision of the Principal, Dr. Manohar Lal along with Prof Ajay Kumar, NSS Programme Officer.
GDC Kalakote celebrated the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda by online inter-college essay writing competition in collaboration with Literary Club and EBSB Club on the topic, “The life and teaching of Swami Vivekananda”, under the guidance of the Principal Dr. Romesh Kr. Gupta.
NSS unit of Govt Degree College Kunjwani organised an online poster and slogan making competition under the guidance of College Principal Prof Hans Raj, wherein NSS volunteers of the College made posters and wrote slogans on the life, teachings and work of Swami Vivekananda.
The Day was also observed by NSS unit of Government Degree College RS Pura in collaboration with CASH Committee by organising an informative online lecture on the topic “Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” to commemorate National Youth Day under the guidance of College Principal, Prof. Sunil Uppal and supervision of Dr Balwinder  Kour, convener CASH committee.
The NSS unit of Govt Maulana Azad Memorial College also celebrated the Day by organizing three day event on poster-making, essay writing contest as well as a special lecturer on the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda wherein students of the College participated enthusiastically under the guidance of the College Principal Dr GS Rakwal.
GDC Harmari observed the Day holding essay writing competitions and poster making competitions under the supervision of the College Principal Dr KK Sharma.
A webinar was organized to celebrate the Day by GDC Ukhral wherein the patron of the College Dr. Ranvijay Singh urged the students to follow Vivekananda’s teachings and some students of the College presented their papers to highlight the essence of youth in Nation building.
NSS unit of Govt Degree College Mahanpur today organized an online poster making competition to spread awareness on National Youth Day to celebrate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda Ji.  The event was organized by Dr Sapna Devi, NSS Programme Officer under the supervision and guidance of Dr Rakesh Kumar Koul, Principal of the College.
To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the NSS units of Govt PG College Rajouri celebrated the National Youth Day on the theme “Saksham Yuva, Sashakt Yuva” which was organized by Dr Naseem Ahmed and Prof Supriya Gupta, NSS Programme Officers under the supervision of College Principal Prof (Dr) Shakeel Ahmed Raina.
The GGM Science College under the patronage of College Principal Dr Ravinder Tickoo and guidance of NSS PO Dr Deepali Mahajan in collaboration with Vivekananda Kendra- a spiritually oriented service organization Jammu Kashmir chapter organized a two day National youth workshop to celebrate the Day.  The motto of the event was to sensitize youth for leading a purposeful life. Dr. Rakesh Raina, Deputy Head Vivekananda Centre Jammu was the resource person who started the workshop with Omkar prayer, followed by songs on the teachings of Swami Vivekanand.
The Government Degree College Dudu Basantgarh organized an online inter-college essay writing competition on the theme of “Life and teaching of Swami Vivekananda” to spread the message of Vivekananda teaching among students. The event was organized by Prof Rahul Sharma and under the supervision College Principal Dr. Bhavnaish Chand.
Poonch District Taekwondo Association celebrated the Day in collaboration with the District unit of Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, at Sports Stadium Poonch wherein Sunil Gupta spokesperson BJP was the chief guest along with Paramjeet Singh and Nirdosh Kumar.
On the occasion of the National Youth Day, RTO Jammu, Dhananter Singh was honoured by Mahant Rohit Shastri president Shri Kailakh Jyotish and Vedic Trust for his dedication towards duties during Covid pandemic. Mahant Rohit Shastri has also appealed to the general public to follow the traffic rules and cooperate with Traffic Police.
The women wing of Gandhi Global Family observed National Youth Day by organising an online symposium competition in which students from various Government Schools expressed their views on the topic “Role of Youth in National Integration”. Lt. General Rakesh Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion whereas Padam Shri Dr SP Verma, president Gandhi Global Family J&K presided over the function. The programme was attended by students, teachers and dignitaries from JK UT and national level.
The birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated with great fervour at Gandhi Nagar constituency, wherein Nitish Mahajan, BJP J&K executive member recalled the noble deeds of revolutionary saint of India Swami Vivekananda and threw light in detail on the life and teachings of him. He said that youth must follow the footsteps of Swami Vivekananda and must fix their goals with concern to their future as well.
To mark the birth celebrations of the great Indian spiritual leader and social reformer, Swami Vivekananda, the Bharat Scouts and Guides Organization, District Udhampur paid rich tributes in an impressive function organized at Happy Model Foundation Campus, wherein Ashok Kumar vice president Bharat Scouts and Guides and Retd Director Sports SMVDS Board Katra were the chief guests, while Veena Shama Distt Secretary Bharat Scouts and Guides and Vimal Sharma were the guests of honor and the event was presided over by Dr Mineesh Gulati chairman and Principal Happy Model Foundation.
BJP Yuva Morcha paid floral tribute to Swami Vivekananda on his birth anniversary at Vivekananda Chowk Jammu wherein BJYM president Jammu & Kashmir, Arun Prabhat was the chief guest.
Prabhat recalled how Swami Vivekananda, in his short life span, with his universal spirituality, practical wisdom and magnetic personality, galvanized the youth of the country with a sense of self-respect. He appealed to the youth to re-dedicate themselves on the Day to build a self-reliant, prosperous and capable India.
