JAMMU, May 30: The National Wushu Coaching Camp (NCC), sanctioned by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) on the recommendation of the Wushu Association of India (WAI), is currently in progress at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex (SKISC), Srinagar, from May 20 to June 8, 2026.
The Wushu Association of India is also conducting the final selection trials from June 5 to 8 at SKISC, Srinagar, for shortlisting the Indian Wushu team for the 20th Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Japan from September 19 to October 10, 2026. At present, 30 members comprising 24 athletes, four coaches and two support staff are undergoing rigorous training at SKISC, Srinagar, taking advantage of the region’s altitude and favourable climatic conditions.
Among the campers, five athletes and one coach from Jammu and Kashmir are participating in the National Coaching Camp. The athletes include Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh, Ansa Chisti, Ishant Singh, Abhijeet Singh and Mohd Ali, while Kuldeep Handoo, Dronacharya Awardee and National Chief Coach of India, is also part of the coaching unit.
In addition, five more athletes from Jammu and Kashmir have qualified for the final selection trials. They are Musharaf Qayoom, Ayeera Chisti, Rohan Sharma, Kannu Sharma and Abhishek Jamwal.
The Wushu Association of India has requested the Sports Authority of India to extend the camp up to June 23, 2026, in view of the Indian team’s participation in the SCO International Wushu Championship scheduled in Hubei, China, from June 24 to 29.
Officials stated that the infrastructure and climatic conditions at Srinagar have been instrumental in athletes’ preparation. This is the second consecutive occasion that Srinagar has hosted the National Coaching Camp ahead of major international events.
